Itinerary: Xilitla Huahuas


9:00 amWe depart from Ciudad Valles, rendezvous point for tourists interested in the exploration of The Huasteca Potosina region.
10:00 amPit stop where you will have the option to try the region’s cinnamon bread with coffee. (Optional Consumption and at the tourist’s expense)
11:00 amArrival to the magical town of Xilitla where we will visit the Surrealist Edward James Garden and we will tour its installations, all while the tour guide will tell us about the life of this eccentric character and the surrounding structures.
3:00 pmFood at the center of the magical town of Xilitla where you will encounter the delicious palate of the region such as the Huasteca enchilada made in the best restaurant in town which features a magnificent view from its terrace. After the meal there will be time to walk around the town’s streets and admire all the local crafts.
5:00 pmPit stop where you will have the opportunity to try the local artisanal ice cream from El Palmar, considered by most as the best in the region, they have a large variety of flavors that could conquer your taste buds. (Optional Consumption and at the tourist’s expense)

We will learn about the Teenek culture in San Isidro Tampaxal in the town of Aquismon, place that harbors one of the most spectacular bird watching locations. After a walk around the coffee plantation we will head towards the Huahuas basement where we can appreciate the spectacle that is the descent of the birds that call that great abysm home.

At the Huahuas basement there is a 1.2km hike to get to the basement’s mouth and a 1.2km hike to make it back to the start of the trail. The hike will have a path with uniform stairs cutting through the wilderness. This hike may be difficult for overweight people, the elderly, or people with knee, hip, or breathing problems (due to the high altitude).
7:00 pmWe will hike back to the vehicle for a snack and to return to Ciudad Valles.
9:00 pmWe arrive to Ciudad Valles where each tourist will be taken back to their respective hotel.

Itinerary: Huasteca Waterfalls


9:00 amWe depart from Ciudad Valles, rendezvous point for tourists interested in the exploration of The Huasteca Potosina Region.
10:00 amArrival at Micos River, the guide will provide the necessary equipment to swim, hike along the river bank.
10:15 amWe can appreciate the beautiful Toro waterfall and swim next to it.
11:15 amTransfer to the Naranjo town to visit the next location.
12:00 pmArrival to Minas Viejas where we can swim in the ponds formed from the 50 meter tall waterfall. (snack)
1:00 pm Transfer to El Salto waterfall, with a height of 70m.

This waterfall can only be appreciated during the rainy season, and will only be available for visiting if the waterfall has enough water.
1:40 pm Arrival to the waterfall, we will begin preparations with the necessary gear in order to swim in the river pools.
2:40 pm Transfer to the final waterfall to visit. The "El Meco" waterfall with 35m of height will be observed from the lookout.
3:30 pm Food in the Town of Naranjo.
7:00 pm We arrive to Ciudad Valles where each tourist will be taken back to their respective hotel.

  • To reach the river bank and appreciate the Toro and Minas Viejas waterfalls a hike is with stairs is necessary, this hike may prove difficult for overweight people, the elderly, or people with knee or hip problems.

Important:

  • During the rainy season which is from June to September the rivers may be overflown and in that case swimming in them will not be permitted, but you will be able to appreciate an impressive waterfall with a torrential flow.

Itinerary: Tamul by Canoe


9:00 amWe depart from Ciudad Valles, rendezvous point for tourists interested in the exploration of The Huasteca Potosina Region.
11:00 amArrival to the river bank. The guide will provide us with the necessary team to perform the activity.

Presentation from our local guide about the place and instructions on rowing upstream in the Tampaon River in order to make it to the waterfall in a typical panga wooden canoe.
11:45amWe will appreciate the beautiful waterfall measuring 105 meters in height. The Tamul waterfall is the tallest waterfall in the state of San Luis Potosi.
12:30 pm We will navigate the turquoise blue waters of the Tampaon River, one of the most scenic and clean in North America, where we will be able to swim part of the river to make it to the Water Cave or the sunken Huastec Cenote.
1:00 pm We will get to know the water cave at the bank of the Tampaon River, a cave with 25 meters of depth where the water springs from and flows towards a waterfall and into the river.
3:30 pm We will reach the embarking point at the shore and will head towards the restaurant.
4:00 pm We will delight ourselves with a rich local meal cooked over a wood fire.
6:00 pm We arrive to Ciudad Valles where each tourist will be taken back to their respective hotel.

Itinerary: Puente de Dios


9:00 amWe depart from Ciudad Valles, rendezvous point for tourists interested in the exploration of The Huasteca Potosina region.
10:30 amArrival to the Tamasopo town where we will go to the first location: Puente de Dios.
10:45 amWe will be arriving to the Puente de Dios site where the guide will provide us the adequate gear to swim in the river and will tell us about the place.
1:00 pmTransfer to the Tamasopo Waterfalls where we will make a stop to learn about the process of some products derived from sugar cane; we will have the option to purchase some cane juice, cane syrup, and sugar, all processed naturally and without chemicals or preservatives. (Consumption is optional and at the expense of the tourist).
1:30 pm Transfer to the tourist spot of 7 Waterfalls (Hacienda Gomez), where we can appreciate and enjoy the beautiful waterfalls, as well as swim in their pools and take some jumps.
3:30 pm Food in the town center, we will enjoy some flavorful local dishes.
4:30 pm Return to Ciudad Valles.
5:30 pmWe arrive to Ciudad Valles where each tourist will be taken back to their respective hotel.

Itinerary: Tamtok


9:00 amWe depart from Ciudad Valles, rendezvous point for tourists interested in the exploration of The Huasteca Potosina region.
10:30 amArrival to the Tamtoc archeological site, located in the town of Tamuin, where the guide will talk to us about the site’s elements.
10:40 amGuided tour through the archeological site. We will explore the site located by the shores of the Tampaon River while the guide talks about the Huasteca culture and the foundations and mounds they left behind.
1:00 pm We will stay at the Taninul Hotel, where we may swim in the establishment’s thermal sulfur waters. We will also have the opportunity to exfoliate with a sulfur mud bath with the mud extracted from the bottom of the spring.

The hotel’s spring contains a strong concentration of sulfur, giving it a strong smell. It should not be expected to be like a conventional swimming pool since it is a natural spring. During the rainy season the sulfur is diluted as well as the heat emanating from the spring. Between July and October we may experience different water conditions and colder temperatures.

Itinerary: Mantetzulel & Tambaque


9:00 amWe depart from Ciudad Valles, rendezvous point for tourists interested in the exploration of The Huasteca Potosina Region.
11:30 amWe will learn a little about the Tenek culture in the Mantetzulel community in the municipality of Aquismon, where a local guide will take us to tour the caves.
11:40 amWe will embark on a hike towards the caves, the first cave, called “The holy spirit / El espíritu santa,” counts with large stalactites and stalagmites.

“La luz del sol” is a cave where we will make an entrance, a place where nature took care of planting a wide variety of trees and medicinal plants. We will exit through a different opening where geology formed a small 50 meter alcove that is traversed by rays of light that give this cave an air of mystery.

“El aguacatillo Cave” is the cave where we will find a small collapse that will show us how the trees venture within the depths of the cave.

The caves are visited in accordance to the physical conditions and will of each tourist to wanting to reach them.
2:30 pmFood available in the town of Aquismon at the “el Bohio” restaurant. This place holds the architecture of native huasteco constructs. It consists in a circular wooden cabin decorated on the inside with local folklore. The food of this place will assure you that the culinary palate of the huasteco people is exquisite.
3:30 pmWe will reach Tambaque’s source, which in Teneek’s language means place of low water, the water in Tambaque falls from the hill into a clear and clean body of water in which we can swim.
5:30 pmWe will hike back to the vehicle and snack before returning to Ciudad Valles.
7:00 pmWe arrive to Ciudad Valles where each tourist will be taken back to their respective hotel.

Itinerary: Rafting Tampaon


9:00 amWe depart from Ciudad Valles, rendezvous point for tourists interested in the exploration of The Huasteca Potosina region.
10:30 amArrival to the Tanchachin village, meaning place of the birds in the Teenek language. In this place we will find the Tampaon river with its turquoise waters. This river is one of the top 10 most scenic and clean rivers of North America.
10:40 amPresentation. Our guides in charge of Rafting are accredited by the Federal Secretary of Tourism for said activity and each one of them has their certification by the international rafting federation. They are in charge of providing and helping us properly wear the necessary gear for the activity along with a talk reinforcing the 4 international rafting rules.
11:00 amFollowing the introductory talk, we will enter the river where our rafting guide will give us a talk on the commands to be used on the raft and we will have some practice in order to better coordinate us.
12:00 pmThe calm river section will end and we will navigate into the canyon where the rapids section will begin, this part of the tour is the most fun and most scenic and will have a great variety of fauna to observe.
2:00 pmWe will rendezvous at the Puente de Dios bridge of the Tampaon River, a great limestone formation that blocks the river forcing it to go under it. We will walk across to the other side of the river, and once we have all made it across the tour guides will indicate how to return to the raft.
2:30 pmWe will begin the final section of calm water, and we will be able to fully appreciate the canyon while we head towards the river exit.
3:00 pmEnd of rafting. Food awaits us at the river bank.
5:30 pmWe arrive to Ciudad Valles where each tourist will be taken back to their respective hotel.

Itinerary: Rappelling & Waterfall Jumping


9:00 amWe depart from Ciudad Valles, rendezvous point for tourists interested in the exploration of The Huasteca Potosina region.
10:00 amArrival to the Micos River where we will jump waterfalls. We will tour 7 waterfalls, from 20cms in height up to 8m in height.

The guide will give us a 10 minute safety talk before starting with the activity.
11:30 amWe will take a hike from the river towards the vehicles and have a snack, then we will head out towards Minas Viejas to enjoy some rappel.
1:00 pmArrival to Minas Viejas where the guide will give us the required gear as well as a safety talk about rappelling.
1:20 pmPractice and rappel descent down the waterfall.

Free time to swim in the pond water under the Minas Viejas waterfall, in this location we will encounter the most intense blue turquoise colored water in the region.
3:30 pmFood in Minas Viejas in a small cabin where we will get to eat a delicious meal.
4:30 pmWe get ready to head back to Ciudad Valles.
6:30 pmWe arrive to Ciudad Valles where each tourist will be taken back to their respective hotel.

  • During the rainy season (July-October), the Minas Viejas river may be overflown which will impede setting up the rappel system and will make the water unsafe to swim in, canceling said activities. We may visit new locations like the Meco waterfall with 35 meters of height and the Salto Waterfall with 70 meters of height.
