Scuba Diving in the Media Luna

perro1The thermal spring Media Luna is located in Ciudad Fernandez bordering the Rio Verde, San Luis Potosí, specifically the “ejido” (portion of land) called El Jabalí. The management of this place is done by the people who live there, “ejidatarios”, who offer food services, vest rental, etc.

The Media Luna is characterized as an excellent place for diving, especially for beginners, since there is no dangerous fauna, no dangerous undercurrents, which makes this immersion a relaxing experience, with a beautiful underwater landscape, where we may notice the contrast in color between the lesser deep places and the deeper ones. Also the plants in the lagoon give it a very attractive color and a special touch for your photographs of the “first dive of your life.” In order to dive in this place there is a program called “Discovering Diving,” which is ideal for novices who have no experience, and where through a certified and experienced instructor you will learn the basic tecniques for the handling of the equipment, and you will practice in shallow waters in order to familiarize yourself with the tools, signals and procedures under water. This activity is so friendly that it is not required to know how to swim. Because it is a spring of thermal water the temperature of the water is so nice that you do not need to wear extra protection against the cold. To see the Media Luna in winter time in the mornings is a whole show in itself since the steam from the water rises giving a touch of mystery.

  • Physical activity during the trip is low.
  • Children 10 years old may attend. Children under 10 are provided a snorkel set for an additional $100 MXN.
  • Time required is a whole day.
  • Ideal for any time of the year.
  • The activity is in the city of Rio verde in SLP which is 90 KM from ciudad Valles. The meeting point for the activity is at 09:00 AM at the Media Luna Diving School.
